Chat for buddypress groups
-
Hi Marcin
Are you planning chat for buddypress groups? For example, I have created a group for practicing spanish and I would like to add a chat there:
http://pretitude.com/groups/espanol/It would be good if every group could have its own chat.
Cheers

Hi,
I understand, but is there a way to put there a shortcode with the WiseChat and custom channel name? For example – on the page for practicing spanish to put shortcode:
[wise-chat channel=”spanish_group”]
?If there is a possibility to put shortcodes you can install Wise Chat as well.
Marcin
Hi and thanks for your quick response !
I find no way to have a chat INSIDE the group with ITS OWN PAGE. I installed the plugin BP Group Extras which gives the possibility to make pages in groups but unfortunately it doesnt work. So I created a spanish chat outside the group using just a wordpress page. That will be a problem later, if each group needs its own chat.
A problem I saw after the chat creation is that it shows the american flag near my nickname while I am posting from France. I use cloudflare.com as CDN which is based in US, but that should not make this trouble.
Well I am waiting people from Duolingo where they learn languages and that is a little problem. If this feature worked correctly, members could see which of them are native speakers…

In case you want to see or to test:
Chat: http://pretitude.com/chat-es/
I changed the group url and now it is
http://pretitude.com/groups/es/Never mind. I deactivated the flags.
Hi Georgi.io I created a plugin to add Wise Chat to BuddyPress Groups, https://github.com/gil–/bp-wisechat let me know if this helps.
Hi,
it works like a charm. Here is a screenshot with a suggestion (I saw you have a todo list) :

Hi,
Georg.io – as for the problems with the flag check one of my examples: http://kaine.pl/projects/wp-plugins/wise-chat/wise-chat-demo/4-list-of-users Does this demo properly present your flag? Maybe you are connecting through some proxy?
BuddyPress integration is planned for future releases.
Thanks!
Hi Marcin
When I am testing with the link you are giving everything is OK. In my site though the city is wrong.
Screenshot : http://www.hostingpics.net/viewer.php?id=120478chatflagaccuracy.png
(I don’t live in Paris).Well, if the chat continues to show the country correctly, I don’t care about the details (I will deactivate the city).
thank you very much
PS I don’t use a proxy but I think that french ISPs use transparent proxies for storage of most visited pages.
Hi Marcin
just for information: the CDN Cloudflare hides indeed the users IPs. I thought that this wouldn’t be a problem, because they have a plugin that restores IPs : https://ww.wp.xz.cn/plugins/cloudflare/After some days of experience, here is my feedback: with the cloudflare plugin deactivated, the chat flag shows whatever while with the cloudflare plugin activated the country is OK, but not the city. It think that I see Paris because my ISP is in Paris.
Nevermind I am generally satisfied
Have a nice day !Hi,
thank you for your feedback. Wise Chat uses http://www.geoplugin.net service to get the location of the given IP address. The plugin simply shows the city that is returned by this service. I observe sometimes that returned city is incorrect. It’s probably due to the fact that it is generally hard to guess city from IP address. I could switch to another service, but I do not think there are perfect solution for this. Maybe someone could suggest a better service.
Thank you!
Georg.io your plugin works great!!! Thanks for it…and thanks marcin.lawrowski for this wonderful chat plugin…finally a chat plugin which works great
Thank you!
Check out the Wise Chat Pro version!
Marcin
surely marcin…any chance of adding BP functionality in your plugin? ex: BP member to member pvt chat?
@nycdev Thanks for that BP integration…highly appreciated
@sharmavishal Do you suggest to add the same functionality as NYCdev did or something else?
