    Hello AI Engine Support Team,

We are seeing recurring, automated OpenAI API calls across all of WordPress sites in our agency environment, even when no one is actively using AI features. These calls are occurring daily and consuming approximately 3,100 tokens per site per day. Our logs go back to Sep 2025 and there are over 21,000 log entries with vast majority from AI Engine.

Looking at the OpenAI response logs, the prompt being executed is long and starts with:

“Based on all the plugins I have installed and my WordPress information, can you give me general advice and recommendations about my WordPress setup? Aim for a concise list of 6–8 recommendations total. Consider factors such as whether certain types of plugins are still needed, if some might be deprecated, their overall impact on performance, if there are redundancies or conflicts between plugins, and if some functionality is no longer required with recent versions of WordPress. Provide the recommendations in a JSON format with ‘level’, ‘severity’, ‘title’, and ‘description’ fields…”

This suggests that AI Engine is running an automated site-analysis / recommendation process in the background.

For context, we manage ~50 WordPress sites. After extensive isolation testing:

    • Sites where AI Engine is active continue to generate these background API calls.
    • Sites where AI Engine is deactivated stop generating API calls.
    • No chat widgets or visible AI features are enabled on these sites.
    • We also use Media File Renamer (AI) with AI Engine, but the calls occur even on days with no image uploads or manual AI actions.

    Could you please clarify:

    1. What feature or background process in AI Engine triggers this site-analysis prompt?
    2. Is there a setting to completely disable all background or scheduled AI activity?
    3. Is there a way to restrict API calls strictly to explicit user actions (e.g., image upload, manual generation, etc.)?
    4. Are there recommended configurations for agencies managing many sites to prevent unintended token usage?

Our goal is to continue using AI Engine and related tools, but only when an intentional action occurs—not from automated background tasks.

Thanks in advance for your guidance. Best regards…

    Hi @ronr1999,

The calls you’re seeing are coming from the Advisor module. It’s a small dashboard widget that runs a daily AI query to analyze your WordPress setup and provide recommendations.

It’s disabled by default, so it must have been enabled at some point on your sites.

If you’d like to stop those background API calls, simply go to AI Engine → Settings → Modules and disable Advisor. You’ll need to do this on each site where it’s active. Once it’s turned off, there won’t be any background AI usage anymore.

Wishing you a great week ahead! ☀️
    Jordy.
