Checking if updraftplus works properly

    Hi David,

    It seems that updraftplus is backing up my website. But how can I make sure that it is working properly? I don’t want to be surprised by finding out that there was a problem with backups after my website collapses.

    I think what I want to have is to restore my website to http://mywebsite/temp
    by using one of the previous backups to see backups and restores are working properly.

    Hi,

    You can do any or all of these:

    1) Inspect the backups manually – they are standard zip and SQL files (use 7-zip from 7-zip.org to open the SQL file).

    2) Use the “Migrator” add-on from https://updraftplus.com/shop/migrator/ to gain you the ability to deploy the backup on a different site from the one it was created on (i.e. clone the site at a new location – not a straight restore).

    3) Restore it at a new location without the Migrator, and that should be enough to view the home page. (But other pages won’t work, because the links will be pointing to the wrong places)
