I am not a programmer. But am trying to rectify something on my site I only have the Child theme, as the developer that set up the account did not set it up how I wanted. most of the theme is ok. I am having issues with the layout of the products being only 3 rows no matter what is changed in the setup The text is also way too big. I have added various plugins to try to fix the issue. What I have figured out is that when I change the theme back to the original 2017 theme everything works as I want it to in respect to the product layout the font is better and I can change to 4 or 5 rows and it actually works! I believe my issues relate to this being a child theme and being locked down. is there any way of fixing this issue or creating/or converting it back to the parent theme as I didn’t create this and don’t have the original parent theme.

A second question. Can i change this to a 2020 theme without rebuilding the whole site. What would be the repricussions.

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

  • A child theme is only a partial set of files to make a theme. It requires that the parent be installed in order to work.
You can preview how any theme will look on your site, from within the Customizer. You have to install the theme, but you don’t have to activate it. Simply “Live Preview” the theme and click on stuff in the preview to see all the pages. If you like it, you can publish that change, which will switch the theme and save any options you changed. Or you can cancel out and your site remains how it was.

    Thanks Joy,

I don’t think I have explained myself very well. In the parent theme everything works as far as the product layout e.g. number of rows per page.and I like the font. in the woocommerce product catalogue section when you change the products per row it stays at 3 and the overflow will go onto another line. I am trying to fix this but it seems a bit beyond me at the moment. It seems that something is overriding the product catalogue row and product quantity per page set up. I have tried turning off and on all the plugins in the child site. this didn’t make a difference. I have been trying to figure out what code and where it is that is permanently set in the child theme to override the settings in the Product catalogue row setting section. I don’t know if this link will work to show how I want it to work.

    Thanks

Themes do have PHP code, but the thing you are complaining about is probably CSS. I’m not familiar with Woocommerce or product layouts. There is a big clue in your saying that it looks right with the parent theme, but not with the child theme. The plugins have nothing to do with it. So that limits you to the child theme files.
If you can’t figure it out, and you don’t want to ask your developer, you can always try jobs.wordpress.net.
