Child theme issues

    And yet another question: I tried to create a child theme by following the instructions in the WordPress Codex, i.e. with only the style.css and functions.php files (to begin with), but this creates issues with the sidebar and social menu. What files do I need to copy from the parent theme folder to make the child theme display widgets, social menu icons and the like properly?
