Choosing the right plugin

One problem with WP being so popular is that there sometimes too many plugin to pick from. So, I ask for the popular opinion.

I need content restriction by user role. There are a few out there but rather than trying a dozen different ones, I figure someone could chime in with a suggestion.

The one I found will hide the body of the post but not the post itself from showing up on the home page.

I’m in a multi tiered environment where a director would like to be able to make posts that only managers can see. They’d NOT be visible anywhere to anyone with just a subscriber or not logged in. That seems to be the challenge.
