How can I change the shape of the post circles into squares?
I’ve read a few other posts that successfully did it by making a child theme and it changed automatically. That didn’t happen for me.
Is this something that has to be done with css?

I did set up a child theme however it did not set the circles into squares like someone had mentioned in another post.

Use Jetpack’s “Edit CSS” option to hold your CSS modifications:
