I have considered installing this plugin a few times but one issue always prevents me from doing so : I can’t tell when there will be conflicts with core.

The plugin ReadMe info describes feature that were certainly valuable with earlier Gutenberg versions, but with so many enhancements to Gutenberg, ported into core, it seems like there is a lot of overlap now between this plugin and core.

I don’t know what features are redundant here, and I especially don’t want this plugin to break new core features.

My suggestions: Please be very explicit about versions in your documentation and code. Allow toggling functionality when the plugin is installed, and advise in the plugin Settings when the current/installed WP core supports functionality so that we know when we need to decide whether to use plugin or core functionality.

So you might create a feature in 6.0 and we toggle it on. In 6.1.2 the same feature is in core. When we upgrade core, this plugin should tell us that we should choose which version to use. This should help to eliminate conflicts that might occur with the plugin trying to override now-core functionality – and you can disable a feature on new activations over a WP version that already includes that feature (with the option to enable it safely for those who wish to do so).

Similarly, if the documentation says “this plugin supports feature X” and “feature X” is now in core, I’m afraid to load the plugin now because I don’t want to break core. So be explicit in your notes about when your features are valid, like “in Core as of 6.0.2” – and be clear that you know that there won’t be conflicts if we install your fine plugin over these versions of core.

Please let us know if all of my notes here are invalid because you’re already doing something like this. 🙂 I’m still confused about feature overlap, but maybe that just requires smaller revisions of the docs than I’ve proposed here – or maybe I’m missing something that’s obvious to others.

I hope that helps. Thanks for your time.
