Hi, we have Cleantalk on many websites and it works very well, but on one site in particular, we are getting a lot of spam. These spam submissions are evidently created by a bot because they bypass the Forminator Pro form’s email validation, leaving the field blank; also the spam submissions don’t show up at all in Cleantalk logs for the site. I know that there are settings tweaks to tighten Cleantalk’s filtering but don’t know exactly what they are; I don’t want to set them too stringent and miss valid submissions if possible. Can you help with this? The website is [link moved to the URL field]

    Thank you!

    Hello,

I’ve done a few tests and found that the reviews form is not protected on the website. Could you confirm that the spam comes from this form? What plugin you use for this form?

No the spam isn’t coming from that form, it’s coming from several Forminator Pro forms. We are aware of issues with the reviews plugin but that’s not the problem here.

Could you send us a link to the form with the missed spam?

    Hi,

There are actually several. In fact, every form on this website with one exception has at least one spam submission with “aYlNlfdX” as user name, most have no email address (even though Forminator has it as a required field), and otherwise nonsensical repeating values in the other fields. There were around 900 of these May 24th and May 25th.

To address the situation, I changed some of the Cleantalk settings today, based on memory from a previous ticket submitted, that are supposed to help improve spam filtering. For example, change jquery to use Cleantalk’s jquery. But I really don’t know all the specific settings that are designed to help improve spam filtering.

main page (form is in footer)
    /special-offer/
    /new-client-registration/
    /contact/
    /request-a-refill/
    /request-an-appointment/

Your latest comment was marked as spam by Akismet. I published it, but redacted your bunch of links by removing a bunch of working links to the site.
I’m going to edit your initial post, too, by moving the link to the special link field, which is visible only to logged-in users, which hides it from search engines.

@mquiggeorgia these forms are protected. Since there are no requests with the username aYlNlfdX in your Anti-Spam logs, spammers aren’t using the website forms. Rather, they’re sending requests directly to the Forminator handler. Please contact us through our private Ticket System for further investigation:

@tobifjellner OK thanks! Was wondering why it was held for moderation.
