Hi,
This is AJ the author.
I actually decided against adding a close button because this requires “cookies” which means loading extra javascript on your site and requiring your site to have a cookie consent notice. I wanted to keep things slimmed down.
If a lot of people request it, I will consider adding it.

The purpose of a notification-bar (NB) is to notify a user about something, imho … If we don’t let the visitors get rid of this bar, it’s not a NB anymore, but rather becomes part of the essential layout of the site.
Even if I really love the simplicity and its lightweight (only 1,88 kb on pageload, are you kidding me 😉 !!!), I really miss the ability to hide the bar via close icon “X” or even “esc” key on the keyboard 😀
I will consider it if more people request it for sure, currently there hasn’t been any other requests. The main concern as I mentioned is this opens up an issue with cookies and privacy.
In my opinion though, if there is something important enough to display at the top of the site you may want to display it always.
What I’ve noticed is a lot of customers using the plugin to display notices regarding COVID 19 which they don’t want to disable.
If you wanted though you are more then welcome to suggest some code changes. I can upload the plugin to Github if you would find that useful.
Thank you for the feedback!
Please do not introduce any additional clutter. I like this plug-in for its simplicity. It does one thing and it does it right. If users want an option to dismiss the bar, they are probably better of with a different plug-in. There are a lot of dedicated cookie notice bars, for example. Keep this one simple! I hate it, when developers overly extend their plug-ins.
@actronab – Thank you for the feedback, I appreciate it 😉 And I agree, the purpose of this plugin is to be fast, simple and elegant. No cookies, no extra javascript, straight to the point. There are other plugins you can use for more advanced setups 😉
