When you click on the image to view larger, it does not let you close it. When you try to click on the “x” to close it, a zoom cursor pops up.

You have several options you can turn on for closing the light box. Go to one of your galleries the WordPress dashboard, under the Options tab you can check Close on Background Click Enabled and/or Close with Escape Key Enabled

Thanks, yeah I just did that and looks much nicer, but that annoying zoom cursor still comes up

As far as I know the zoom cursor comes from something else, it is not in Maxgalleria.
