Hi Dutchintouch,
you can use cname field if you have a subdomain ( i.e.: hotels.yourwebsite.com ) and you want to use to replace http://www.booking.com for your implementation.
Remember that on your side you need
- to point this cname to http://www.booking.com ( using your domain admin panel )
- to communicate your cname to our support
You can find further and deep explanation of the cname here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CNAME_record
Hi booking .com
What URL do I put in the cname?
For instance I have London.co.za, if i wanted to cname hotels.london.co.za, what would I send the cname to?
And who do I notify to expect these requests?
Thanks
Don
Hi Don,
thanks for contacting us.
I.e. if you want to use hotels.london.co.za as a cname, first you need to point the cname hotels.london.co.za to http://www.booking.com: this can be done using your domain provider administration panel ( everyone is different ). This way hotels.london.co.za is associated to http://www.booking.com.
Then you need to communicate this cname to our support team.
Finally, once updated on our system too ( so your cname will be associated to your implementation and your aid ), you can fill the corresponding field in your search box plugin’s settings.
This way hotels.london.co.za will be shown instead of http://www.booking.com on browser’s address bar when a search is performed using search box widget of your website.
Does it make sense?
Let us know if there is something unclear and we’ll be happy to help!
Have a nice day.
Thanks for your detailed response.
Can I cname just a normal domain aswell like durbanhotels.co.za or is this cname only for the WP plugin to be used in conjunction with the site?
Is there any limit to how many cnames we cans etup?
Thanks
Hi Jislaaik,
you need to create a specific cname for the plugin, and should be a subdomain like:
hotels.yourwebsite.com
You can use that cname for one affiliate ID.
