I am a newbie, but I’m ready to throw in the towel. The only reason that I wanted to use WordPress was to allow people to comment, but the comment box will not display. Based on my google and wordpress searches, this seems to come up regularly.

    I’m using 2017

I’ve removed all except one other theme.

I only have TinyMCE Advanced plugin activated

I have Thrive plugins deactivated (for comments, because I thought if I paid for something, I might be able to see comments that way – it also doesn’t work). I deleted the plug ins that came with WordPress and one additional one that I’d downloaded.

I have two posts at the time I’m writing this, and both are set to allow comments. Neither of them do.

They are NOT pages; they are blog posts

Settings/discussion is set for “Allow people to submit comments on new posts”, “Comment author must fill out name and email” and I’ve asked for an email notification whenever someone posts a comment.

Though my posts are backdated, I do NOT have automatically close comments checked

If I select “view” from the post listing, I can see a comment box. It shows that I’m logged in. If I log out, I can still see a comment box (and it asks for author name and email). However, just going to the website by typing in the web address brings up posts without a comment box. It’s acting as though I have “Users must be registered and logged in to comment” but that setting is NOT checked (and I checked it and saved it and unchecked and saved it). I cannot see a comment box when I choose “view site” or when I check the site using a different browser (I’m using Brave).

I am truly at my wit’s end. Does anyone have any suggestions? I’ve spent so much time on this that I’m honestly ready to quit and try something that is easier to use. ) :

  • I am seeing the comments box on this page: https://www.clarkstonsecrets.com/?p=188

The comments box only shows up on single posts not on archive pages. The homepage as you have it set up right now is considered an archive page. Once a user clicks into one of the posts they will be able to leave a comment.

    Hope this helps.

Thank you for getting back to me. How do I change the way the homepage is set up so that it is not an archive page? Thanks.

Depends what you want to do with it. You might be better off finding a theme that has a homepage design you like in the themes library here on ww.wp.xz.cn. the default twenty-something themes are very basic and require a lot of coding experience to customize the homepage.

You might also consider a page builder such as Beaver Builder or Elementor
    https://ww.wp.xz.cn/plugins/elementor/
    https://ww.wp.xz.cn/plugins/beaver-builder-lite-version/

If you use a page builder or different theme you will need to design your homepage under the pages area in WP-Admin. Once you’ve done that make sure to set the homepage under Settings → Reading Settings.

Hope this helps you get headed in the correct direction.
