Hi John-Pierre,
Yes the comment box can be placed anywhere but you must hardcode the shortcode into the theme. Full instructions are detailed on the plugin homepage.
Thanks
Have you gone to – Avada Theme Options > Blog > Comments – uncheck the box “Check the box to display comments”.
That will hide the WordPress Comments area – not sure if that’s what you’re after?
Thanks @worthdesigning
That’s not what I am after. It’s already automatically hidden after installing the this plugin.
The problem is that the plugin places the FB comment box at a different spot rather then replacing the standard WP comment box at the smae location which is coded in the theme.
According to the plugin author you can hardcode it in the theme. However, I don’t want to do that because it means extra work with every theme update.
Thanks
JP
As you’ve removed/deactivated Facebook Comments I can’t see the issue.
Can you activate it temporarily so I can see it?
Done. By the way, my previous statement that the plugin automatically disables the standard WP comments box isn’t correct. It just stays there until I disabled it. And if I do so, it says ‘comments are not allowed’.
So all in all I think this plugin is promising, but it should really automatically replace the standard WP comment box. That would make using it much easier for most/all WP users.
Pls let me know when you have had a look at it so I can disable that plugin again.

With a blog post it’s also inserted at the wrong spot

Hi there,
Thanks for the feedback, but it’s intentional that this plugin does not work INSTEAD of native WP comments but instead IN ADDITION TO. This is so people who want to use both can, and those who wish to use only FB Comments still can either by using the options to disable native WP comments as you’ve mentioned, or embed the plugin into the theme comments template.
Right – as Alex said if you want the Facebook Comments where the WordPress Comments are you’ll have to hardcode it into the theme, unfortunately.
Fair enough, although I don’t see the point why someone would use it in addition to the standard comments.
But continuing on that, a theme designer has deliberately placed the standard WP comments on a specific spot in the theme template, so to me it would make most sense if FB comments is inserted at the same spot, maybe just above or below the standard comments location. To make it perfect, there could be a setting in FB comments to indicate if you want to replace the standard comments or not.
@jp yes you can do this, and the shortcode will help. There are more people who wanted FB Comments as an addition than replacing the WP comments altogether, which is why the plugin caters for as many scenarios as possible.
With the Avada theme only by coding it into the theme and that’s something I don’t want because of their update frequency.
The post indicates this was resolved – what was the resolution?
(hint: hard-coding something into a theme is NOT a resolution, it’s a temporary work-around)
