Comment email notification & counts

I love this plugin. It looks really nice and I particularly like the way the icons and colours show the author, member & admin differently at a glance.

Got two queries which might have already been asked here but I couldn’t find.

Firstly, is there a way to NOT count comments that are made by the author of the post? At the moment, if someone comments and the author replies, the count is set to 2 when the author was not actually commenting but replying.

Also:
People seem to be getting two notifications when they are subscribed to a comment thread. Is this because they have clicked to “subscribe” to the thread AND they have also clicked to receive replies “Notify of new replies to this comment”
