Have you tried:
– deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem? If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).
– switching to the Twenty Ten theme to rule out any theme-specific problems?
– resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin? Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.
Thank you very much.
I have deactivated all plugins but still have this arbitrary behavior:
http://chefspro.com/
on the whole, more recent blogs seem to be comment enabled.
Twenty ten is a good idea. How would I rest the plugin folder? I have PHP but generally use cpanel..can it be done through wp-admin, or how?
oops..I Meant FTP. I believe I have access to PHPMyadmin as well.
There seems to have been an open ” in one of the plugins, but removing them has had no impact. Twenty Ten shows the same behavior, so it is not theme specific.
Sorry if I’m asking the obvious but have you checked your configurations in Settings->Discussion? Specifically the “Automatically close comments on articles older than [] days` checkbox?
no, you are not. I missed that. I knew I was going to have a fist to skull moment here. Thanks a lot!
Glad to hear that it’s sorted. 🙂
thanks again. I read past that at least ten times. duh.

Comments are seemingly arbitrarily on or off on various post, although “allow comments” and “allow pings” are checked on all of them. Behavior prior to and after upgrade to 3.04.
Example: http://chefspro.com/?p=436 (comments closed) and
http://chefspro.com/?p=454 (comments not closed).
Using latest version of suffusion.
I certainly hope someone has an answer.
