When I click on the comment icon to pull up the slider window with comments and likes, it never loads. Here’s a screenshot.

I’ve tried searching with no luck. I am using Redwood theme.

That’s Jetpack’s Notifications module.

I recommend contacting the folks behind Jetpack about that at https://jetpack.com/contact-support/

For anyone that needs an update:

The resolution is that we must be signed in to wordpress.com as well in order to see the comments window in our wp-admin dashboard.

I suppose I’d inadvertently signed out of wordpress.com and that’s what was causing this.
