Comment section website requiring “https://”
-
Hello,
Let’s begin from your title:
Comment section website requiring “https://”
I just tested your website and this doesn’t appear to be the case.
However, it has a requirement for it to start with “https://” or “http://”,
Sure, and that’s because a FULL website address begins with
http://orhttps://… before the domain namebuildthegiant.comcomes.… which means that if I introduce “buildthegiant.com” it won’t accept it
Again, that’s because buildthegiant.com is NOT a full website address.
… unless I make it begin with “https://”.
No, it also accepts
http://just fine. I tested it.The issue at stake here is you seem to be thinking that when you just write
buildthegiant.com, this is equivalent to writinghttp:///buildthegiant.com— which is not the case.I’m sorry to bother you again, but it seems that I didn’t explain myself well enough.
In every blog post, I allow visitors to write comments.
To write comments, a requirement is to type in “Name” and “Email”, and then I give them the option to type in their “Website”, so there are 4 fields in the comment section. Name, email, website, and the actual comment. The problem is, that when people introduce their website url, in the “Website” field, it does not allow them to skip the “http://” or “https://” at the beginning.
Before posting this question, I tried in 2 different blogs and it was allowed, so it has to be some kind of configuration, whether a plugin or the theme, that is making it mandatory in my blog.
I hope this is clearer now and we get to find the solution.
Thanks you for taking your time George!Hello,
Thanks for the clarification!

I think it’s your theme HESTIA that’s REQUIRING this, as the same behaviour exists on the theme’s DEMO website. Take a look and test:
https://demo.themeisle.com/hestia/2016/09/03/appearance-guide/
“Fixing” this is likely to involve editing a template file.
I’ll advise you post in the theme’s dedicated support forum, where the developer is likely to see and advice you on what to do:

Good morning!
In my blog comment section, I have enabled the option of typing in the website, so that users can redirect to their blogs.
However, it has a requirement for it to start with “https://” or “http://”, which means that if I introduce “buildthegiant.com” it won’t accept it unless I make it begin with “https://”.
Any idea of which plugin can be causing it, or if it’s something from wordpress ??
I have been talking with some blogger friends and they do not have this issue.
