    Hello All,

I am just kind of curious if anyone else is receiving a bunch of generic (spam like “I finally got a chance to check out your web page, and I must say that I’m impressed. Hope everything is going well. Take care!”) comments without any links and bogus email addresses?

As much as I like comments on my site, I am not overly fond of bogus comments either.

    Thanks,

    John

The best thing I’ve ever used is called WordPress Hashcash.

Client-side javascript computes an md5 code, server double checks. Blocks all spam bots because bots don’t use javascript meaning that they cannot compute the md5 code. Note this will NOT add any extra input boxes for commenters to fill out, it requires no extra work from the commenters.

I’ll check it out. Thank you.

    “…sexy school girls?”

What can I say, I think they look cute. 🙂

Check this article out about nice spammers that I found.

The funny thing is that the comments (like in the article you pointed too) have no links, trackbacks or javascript in them.

It is like the silly spammer sent his evil doing robot off to do its task without including any links back to them.

Silly spammers. Don’t they realize that links are for kids. 😉

I think they’re trying to get past the basic “first comment must be approved” setting. Comment looks harmless, blog owner lets it through. Spammer can then comment as much as he/she/it likes, complete with links.
