Comment string unexpectedly shows on single.php | ww.wp.xz.cn

For some odd reason, a ‘Comments’ string appears after the comment count (’12 Comments’, for example) only when viewing the single.php template. Works as expected on other templates.

Steps taken:
-double checked options -> ‘comments text’ field to make sure nothing is there
-delete and re-add the widget

Expected behavior
-only the comment number should show (ie 12)

Actual behavior
-comment number followed by ‘comments’ string shows (id 12 Comments)

Double check your settings in Disqus – the site. If you go to Settings->Basic you will see a Comment Count Link section. That’s where Disqus checks what to do when showing comment counts. It looks like, from what you showed me, that’s where it’s picking up the word “Comments”. My setting would be in addition to what is set there, and it would also appear outside the link to the comments.
