Comments Automatically Turning Off

    Hi

    I have a problem whereby I continually need to reset my comments options in settings. Every couple of days they revert to being closed after 28 days but I don’t want this to happen. So, I untick the box, press save and we’re good to go. Until I check again a couple of days later. I am a food blog and want my comments to always remain open and I think I am missing a lot of engagement and interaction because people can’t comment. I’ve read the other threads about this and tried the troubleshooting with no effect. Not life-threatening, I know, but extremely frustrating none-the-less!

    Have you checked and confirmed the “AUTOMATICALLY CLOSE COMMENTS” feature is not on?

    If this is off, or if this setting itself keeps turning ON automatically after you’ve turned it off, then I’m afraid the problem is a bit more…. interesting.

    I’ve seen several reports of this setting tunning on automatically even after it’s been turned off, but it seems to be intermittent, and I’ve not found the real cause or solution. See this thread and this one, and this one.

    The common thing in the last link above is the host: everyone who posted there is using Bluehost or another host owned by Bluehost’s parent company, EIG. As I can see you’re using Bluehost as well, we’ve got a pretty high correlation here.

    Unfortunately, Bluehost folks don’t seem to care to check what’s really going on (read the last link above for their response).

    Hi George,

    Yes, it is the latter, I am afraid. I need to go in almost daily to check that the box for automatically closing comments hasn’t mysteriously been re-ticked in my absence! It’s frustrating, for sure. Thanks for the links – I did read the first two but missed the BlueHost reference. Very peculiar! I guess we will never know the cause (turning off all plugins for several days is not an option, unfortunately).

    Same issue. Tough to find wise threads when the mods close them prematurely and send people off to create new threads. Would help a lot of the old threads were just deleted so they aren’t searchable by google.
