If comments are loading for newer posts, probably you have disabled comments on old posts? Can you make sure that comments are enabled for those posts (in Discussion settings)?
The comments are enabled for the older posts, and there are comments on those pages. The comment totals display on the posts before you click on it, but the comments don’t load once on the page.
As an example, the first two posts here have over 100 comments in the comment totals (http://www.purplerockpodcast.com/category/survivor-season-rankings/). But if you click on the posts DCL does not load. This is a recent issue, since the comments used to appear.
I’ve only installed one new plugin recently (Inline Google Spreadsheet Viewer), so I deactivated and deleted it and the comments still are not loading.
Can you share the screenshots of plugin’s settings pages and the post’s discussion settings area?

Thanks. Comments scripts are not available on these pages. Weird! Were you using any caching plugins before? (I know you have mentioned none of them are active currently).
No, I’ve never used a caching plugin. And as I said, I think the older comments disappearing is a relatively recent thing. I’m very confused about why they appear on new posts but not old posts.
