Sorry to say these options do not work for me. I tried both and comments are not checked, however, they still show up!!

Hi @skopelosvillas,
You can manage comments on the single event page from screen options on WordPress.
Maybe your issue comes from your theme (or other plugins) and you should contact theme author, however, you can do the steps below:
For troubleshooting, deactivate all your plugins and let the MEC remain active only, set your theme on default, then reload the page, if the issue was solved, then activate your plugins one by one and your theme, refresh your page and check to see which plugin is causing the issue.
* Update: Also, you can use the inspect element to hide the comment box on the single event page, please follow the steps explained in this article: https://webnus.net/dox/modern-events-calendar/inspect-element/
