• My most recent post to my blog has comments closed, which I don’t want, but changing the settings isn’t working. Earlier posts do allow comments. I’m wondering if this has anything to do with my following the steps in “Giving WordPress Its Own Directory,” which I did before creating that most recent post. I thought I followed all the directions right. Do you know what the problem might be?

  • Did you go to dashboard, posts, posts, that particular post, edit and check allow comments there?

Can you tell me where on the edit page that allow comments check box is? I don’t see one.

On the edit page go to the upper right corner, screen options, and turn discussions on.

Okay, I checked discussions (also checked comments, for good measure)… didn’t change anything, though. Other ideas?

Do you have Allow people to post comments on new articles
    checked under settings/discussion?

    Also please post a url.

Perhaps some of the core files did not get moved or were corrupted.

You can check for wp-comments-post.php in the root folder. There are other files also but probably the best approach is to delete the wp-includes and wp-admin folders. DO NOT delete the wp-contents folder. Download a new copy of wp. Upload the fresh copies of those directories to the server.

Yes, I have checked Allow people to post comments on new articles. It will let you comment on any other page. It will also let you comment on my first blog post–just not my second.

    The url is katherinefink.com.

Is wp-comments-post.php supposed to be in the root folder? It didn’t say to put it there on this website, which is what I was following. Right now I have that in the wordpress folder.

I replaced the wp-includes and wp-admin folders with the latest versions… no change.

I’m having this exact same problem and it sounds like a lot of people are also. Everyone should check there blogs because my older posts do not have this problem but newer ones(since I updated to 3.14 or whatever) do.

No, sorry, it is in the wp folder (for me that is the root).

So when you edit the post, check allow comments and update, it doesn’t change? Also, normally if comments are closed the “Comments 0” doesn’t show up.

We need to do some normal debug. Have you tried:

    – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    – switching to the Twenty Ten theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

    – resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

I’ve just tried all three of those things… didn’t work.

Can you create another test post and see if we still have same problem this time check if you have allow comments in discussion ticked.

If you use skype then can we meet on skype and see if we can debug using desktop sharing my Id is govindjip

Wow–it’s fixed. I created the test post, and the discussion box appeared–it hadn’t been there earlier. So I went back to the previous post and the discussion box appeared there, too, so I was able to click allow comments. Maybe the previous debugging actually did work and I just hadn’t seen it because I didn’t go back in to edit the earlier post.

Anyway, whatever it was, thanks for the help!

You are welcome sometimes there little thing that we miss.

    Thanks govpatel!
