This is really driving me crazy. Nubeli, above, said that he thought his webhost had a non-standard PHP setup, and moving to a different host solved the problem. I don’t have that option, at the moment. As I said before, a previous installation of WordPress does not have this issue.
A vanilla 2002-01-09 nightly build is installed at http://lackaff.net/index.php. I would really appreciate any advice — WordPress is a great product, and I would hate to have to switch to something inferior because of this little problem. Thanks.

D’oh! That’s 2004, of course.
I have the same problem as Nubeli on http://timide.chinoiseries.net
Strangely enough.. the main blog at http://chinoiseries.net/vie and my hostee at http://gurge.chinoiseries.net have no problems with commenting at all.
Also, after I upgraded the “timide” blog it worked for a little while, and it suddenly started showing “Error: please type a comment”. Even after a completely fresh re-install! I’ve just installed 1.01 on it and it’s still giving me that error.. I find it strange that it’s only happening with the “timide” blog.
Suggestions anyone? I’m not a php-guru 🙁 🙁
Ah, I solved my problem.. apparently this was because I had created a redirect for this subdomain “timide” and it showed http://www.chinoiseries.net/timide// with double forward slashes. Not sure if that’s supposed to mean anything, but as soon as I removed the redirect, I could comment again -__-;;
