What theme are you using? Where did you download it from?
Hi esmi, I’m using Explorable from Eleganttheme.
Thanks
Loc
I’m sorry but as you appear to be using a commercial theme, you need to seek support from the theme’s developer/vendor. We do not support commercial products here.
Try http://www.elegantthemes.com/forum/
I understand, but I wasn’t sure if disabling comments also hide previous comments is wordpress behavior or was it caused by the commercial theme.
If you disable comments, the theme should continue to show existing comments but no the “submit comment” form. If that is not happening on your site, then it would seem that the thee is the issue. You can confirm this by temporarily switching to the 2014 theme.
Hi esmi, I’ve tried using the native WordPress theme (Nictitate) and experienced the same behavior. The system is aware of the existing comments because there is a bubble that says “1 comment” but that comment is hidden from the viewer when “Allow Comments” is unchecked
However, I tried the “Twenty Fourteen” theme and it does work as you have described. So this theme related I wonder what can be done to correct it.

On a post, how do I continue to show existing comments written by users while disable new comments from being made? When I click on post’s “Quick Edit” and toggle the “Allow Comments” checkbox, all old comments disappeared along with the new comment text box.
I like to keep old comments but disable others from adding new comments. Please help.
Thanks
