• I have an e commerce site, and I am trying to enable comments on one page. I found the little checkbox in the WP dashboard to “enable comments”. No luck. So I made a comment from the dashboard thinking that might get them to display. Nothing. So I made another non-admin account hoping my customers could see the comments on their accounts. Nope. Then I found a way to change the template to “blog” from “default”. No change, other than it took away the page’s content.

I AM NOT A VETERAN CODER/PROGRAMMER. I used to like doing a little PHP/HTML coding, but that was before wordpress. Now I absolutely hate it.

I also know that I don’t want to install a plugin for this. I know this functionality is built into wordpress. It is pretty much the most basic thing it does. I can only assume my custom theme is overriding comments.

Anyone have any ideas? What code do you need to see?

    here is the page:

EDIT: This page was made about 6 months ago. I paid a company to make it. I didn’t author the theme.

  • Hello!

You said you enabled comments, but I don’t know exactly from where, so I’ll start from the beginning.

After you enabled comments from Settings -> Discussion (“Allow people to post comments on new articles”), go to Pages or Posts, search for the particular page or post that you want to display the comment section, click on Quick Edit, and then check the Allow Comments box. Press Update. Clear your site’s cache, if you have such plugin or hosting feature, and your browser’s cache (Ctrl+F5 or Cmd+Shift+R on Mac – not sure for Mac).

    This should work…

I checked the global setting (settings/discussion), comments were already enabled. I also edited the page, comments were already enabled there too.

I get e mails about approving spam comments all the time. Spam robots do it all the time. And we have had some valid comments from customers on our products in our e commerce area of our site. I don’t know why they work there and not anywhere else.
