compatability with ng1.9.13
-
Hi Mark,
I am still using Nexgen Gallery 1.9.13 with Nexgen Gallery Optimizer Premium 1.1.2, and am wondering why I never received any news of an updated version thru my WP dashboard? Is it truly safe for me to update from 1.1.2 to the current version, or are there any issues I should be concerned about since I am still using 1.9.13?
Thanks, Bill.

Hi Bill,
Plugin update notifications and the 1-click plugin updater were just some of the many extra features added in Optimizer Pro (v2.0+).
The original Premium version did not have this advanced functionality (which is taken for granted with plugins hosted at ww.wp.xz.cn, as it’s done automatically), so you would not have received update notifications via your WordPress admin.
To answer your second question, you should have absolutely no trouble using your new copy of Optimizer Pro (ref. email) with NextGEN v1.9.13, and in fact, I would definitely recommend it! For a start, there are numerous improvements to performance, plus we’ve now completely rounded out support for every feature in NextGEN Legacy (v1.6.2 to v1.9.13), including widgets, AJAX pagination (now also works with Fancybox), Piclens, the Singlepic link attribute and much, much more!
For full details regarding the optimization process in NextGEN v1.9.13, please see…
http://www.nextgengalleryoptimizer.com/optimization-flowcharts/nextgen-legacy-nextcellent-gallery/Optimizer 2.x’s numerous improvements for NextGEN Legacy (v1.6.2 to v1.9.13) were actually slated to be a major release in and of itself! However, final development had to be drastically postponed, due to the launch of (and problems caused by) the completely rewritten NextGEN 2.0 codebase in July 2013.
So, yes. In short…go for it! Simply deactivate your copy of the original Optimizer Premium, and activate Optimizer Pro 🙂
I hope this helps!
Cheers,
Mark.Thanks, Mark.
If I go from Optimizer Premium 1.1.2 to Optimizer v2.0, as opposed to Optimizer Pro, will that be as seemless? Nextgen tells me I need to upgrade to 2.0 from Legacy due to security issues, and I am not sure what I will dojust yet. Everything has been fine, but I now notice that my current version 1.9.13 no longer allows me to re-sort my images, and they don’t offer support any longer. So, I’m not sure which step to take first. I may want to try the free version of Opt 2.0 first with my current Legacy before I upgrade to Optimizer Pro. Are there any options I will lose going from what I have to Opt. 2,0?
Thanks much, Bill
Hi Bill,
Sure thing. You can go ahead and use Optimizer Basic 2.x first if you like, just deactivate all other versions beforehand. You’ll be missing out on the new NextGEN Gallery Deactivator feature, and Fancybox customization via the new Dynamic Fancybox Settings Interface (which are both unique to Optimizer Pro), but everything else will be just as seamless.
If you’re concerned about security issues, updates and support, you might like to try NextCellent Gallery. It’s a fork of the NextGEN Legacy codebase (from v1.9.13), and is being actively maintained to ensure future compatibility. Optimizer 2.x Basic and Pro are both fully compatible with NextCellent Gallery also…

I appreciate your advice and help, as always!
My best, Bill
No worries, Bill 🙂
All the best with your site!
Cheers,
Mark.oops…one FINAL question..is the old optimizer premium compatable with nexcellent gallery also?
thanks very much
actually, never mind. I have changed from optimizer premium to opt. 2.0 although still with legacy, for right now, and all looks good. just cant change the fancybox from outside to inside. i will play around and see what i can come up with after i switch over to nexcellent.
thanks again:)
now switched over to nexcellent and all looks good. will probably upgrade to optimizer pro for the additional features!:)
Mark,
Can I manually change the fancybox appearance from the current (outside) to inside the box in settings? With Optimizer premium, I used “custom” as default and added class=”myfancybox” rel=”%GALLERY_NAME%”, which no longer works.
Not life or death, as I don’t hate the default outside settings, but if there is a way to go back to what I had by using 2.0 basic, please let me know.
Congrats on this new work!
Bill
Thanks, Bill!
To answer your first question, Optimizer Premium and Optimizer Basic (prior to v2.0) both predated the existence of NextCellent Gallery (and NextGEN 2.0.xx), so are not fully compatible. Full compatibility was added in Optimizer Basic/Pro v2.0.
In regards to Fancybox’s title styles, I believe I’d given you some custom code for Optimizer Premium back in 2013 to change it to the inside position, but you can now do this without any coding (and in a completely update-safe way) via the new Dynamic Fancybox Settings Interface in your copy of Optimizer Pro.
Once installed and activated, simply click the “Launch” button on Optimizer Pro’s settings page, and select your preferred title position. You can choose from “None”, “Float”, “Over”, “Inside” or “Outside”.
For full details on all options available in Optimizer Pro’s Dynamic Fancybox Settings Interface, please see the following documentation page…

Cheers,
Mark.Thanks, Mark!:)
I’ve always appreciated your info, patience and help. I’ll be upgrading soon.
No worries, Bill.
And thanks for your kind words 🙂
All the best,
Mark.
