I’m curious why you feel that Shield is the cause of this? Are there errors somewhere being generated that are pointing to Shield?
Hi Paul,
Disabling shiled makes the problem disappear, so I figured it might be one of the settings in shield that I have enabled that prevent updraftplus or wordpress to execute the scheduled tasks.

Okay can you take each module of Shield and disable them. Each module has a main feature-enablement option.
Then enable each 1 in turn until this problem occurs.
Then once we can find the module, we’re closer to where the conflict lies.
Also, do you have any errors in your error_log or in the audit trail that might point to this?
I am still investigating on this issue. This is really unclear what is causing this and it might not be Shield as I firstly thought! Will keep you updated.

hehe it’s a complicated thing to debug… please do keep me posted on what you find!
Hi,
Thought you might be interested in an update 🙂
The original problem (ie automatic backups from updraftplus not working) had nothing to do with Shield as I first thought!
I was due to cron tasks not working at all for my entire site!
I had install HTTP/SSL certificates at some point and that makes cron-tasks stop working. Thanks to this plugin (https://ww.wp.xz.cn/plugins/wp-crontrol/) I was able to monitor cron tasks and it had usefull error messages there.
The main issue seems to be how my provider is handling SSL certificates on his server and this generates errors with wp-cron.php (more info here: https://ww.wp.xz.cn/support/topic/curl-error-35-error140770fcssl-routinesssl23_get_server_hellounknown-protoc/)
Thanks for you good work 🙂
