    Hello,

looks like there are some compatibility issues with the popular Shortpixel Image Optimizer Plugin (https://de.ww.wp.xz.cn/plugins/shortpixel-image-optimiser/)

Here are 2 issues I’m currently running into:

    1. when the “smart crop” in Shortpixel is enabled (which tries to get a better crop than the regular one automatically) then the preview shown in the Crop Thumbnails plugin doesn’t match. The preview image shows a different crop in the thumbnail than the actual image on file, which is a big problem since you first check these thumbnails to figure out IF/WHICH image needs a manual crop fix at all…
    2. The Shortpixel plugin has an option to create WebP/AVIF versions for all images. Unfortunately, using the manual crop in the Crop Thumbnails plugin only the “original” (jpg/png) files are cropped. All the WebP/AVIF versions are not affected. Obviously, if you want to serve these files then it’s essential to have them cropped correctly as well.

Would be really great to see these 2 fantastic plugins work together.

    Thanks and all the best

    hi @mariachellini,

thank you for reporting – but i guess you should only use one of the plugins.

If you are happy with shortpixel and there features, go with it. From you reporting assume they are using a different approach on the image-sizes and also different file locations.

I myself use less and less cropped image-sizes all together, but wen i do i use the webp-express plugin for handling the webp transformation.

    Sorry, can’t help you.

sorry to hear, for me both plugins would be great together and not one being a replacement for the other. because while shortpixel does its best trying to auto-crop your crop thumbnail plugin gives the user the manual control to overrule and fix all the images to a users liking.

for the files: the generated webP files are named exactly as their “original” jpg one’s and are in the same location.

you wrote you use less cropped image-sizes all together, do you mind sharing what you’re doing instead? Especially when I’m seeing so many themes out there adding 20 image sizes for different modules/layouts etc. it would be great to see a different workflow from a professional like you, because when I could reduce the number of images I’d be all for it 😀

    thanks again
