LifterLMS does not currently have the ability to track progress for anonymous users. If there is no account associated with the user, we do not provide the ability to record completion or take quizzes.
We are considering making some changes to this but it will come in a future release that we haven’t exactly worked out or scheduled yet.
You *can* create completely free courses (with free access plans). Your students would have to enroll (create accounts) and then they can complete & take quizzes on your lessons.

Can we have people enroll in free courses who already have accounts on our website?
If so, how does the checkout or enrollment work? We don’t use the checkout or payment page or any other page for courses or sign up.

You will need to setup a checkout page (but if you’re not selling anything call it “Enrollment” instead. The name doesn’t matter.
For free enrollments LifterLMS still moves users through checkout (but it’s $0.00 and doesn’t require any payment gateways or credit card information).
And the UX is modified so it doesn’t feel like checkout. Here’s a guide to the free checkout feature: https://lifterlms.com/docs/checkout-free-access-plans/
