• Hi, somehow all the wordpress files for my site have been deleted. My domain host, website host and web guys are all refusing to accept responsibility.

It seems that there are no file or folders related to WordPress within the root anymore on my ftp or file manager but, despite this, the home page and one or two other pages do still load. The other 100+ pages don’t though and i’m left with a white screen and HTTP500 error.

Seeing as there are no wordpress files uploaded it seems to be that this is causing the issue rather than any plugin updates causing more common white screen issues.

(I’ve guessed at the wordpress version, it was originally installed in 2013/14).

My hosting company does have a set of backup files which must just be the content itself because we’ve tried to roll the site back to early December but it’s still not working.

What’s my next step? If i do a fresh wordpress install to get the necessary files then rollback to the earlier backup to link the content to it will that get it live again?

    Thanks in advance!

  • Hello, oasisinthesun, & welcome. Could you perchance give us the url of your site, please?

A WordPress website basically consists of 2 parts:
    1) the WordPress files; &
    2) the database, which contains your content such as posts, pages, etc.

If you reinstall the WordPress files & connect it to the proper database via your wp-config.php, making certain all the pictures etc you’ve linked to have been uploaded, then everything should work. It’s hard for me to figure out how your homepage is working if the files were all deleted, to be honest, unless you’re seeing a cached version, which is why I asked you to provide your site url, as chances are quite good I will not have anything cached for your site.

Hi Jackie, yes it’s strange that anything is loading. Have a look at http://www.exwhyzed.co.uk

(I should also mention that i cannot access wp-admin to make any changes that way. It gives me the same 500 error message).

You’re on Cloudflare. That’s caching to the extreme. I suggest you reupload all WordPress files, complete your wp-config.php w/the database information as appropriate, & let’s see if that gets you up & running.

Before I reinstalled anything, I have now tested the site on a PC laptop with Chrome, Internet Explorer and Firefox and it works fine. It also loads using Safari on an ipad and on a mobile. It just wont work on a Mac (!!).

It’s weird that none of the wordpress files are listed within the root folder (are they stored somewhere else (like on Cloudflare’s server and not within mine), strange that I cant access the wp-admin and bizarre that the site works on some computers but not others. Why would this be happening and what can you recommend to fix it?

Can we please see your .htaccess file, oasisinthesun?

BTW, oasisinthesun, you are getting a 500 internal server error using either wp-admin or wp-login.php, so there’s definitively a problem w/the site. Happy New Year. I’m really sorry this is occurring. We’ll do everything we can to help you get this fixed.

    Hi Jackie, happy new year!

The only text within the .htaccess file is the line:

    AddType x-httpd-php53 .php
