completing theme modifications and saving results

    This newbie has a simple mechanics question. What do I do, after I have modified the style.css or html code of my child theme, to save the results and update my site?
    Ex: I want to play with font weight in the text of my posts.
    I go first to my dashboard, then I launch Firebug. Next I bring up a post to edit; I select a paragraph, go the Firefox tools, select Firebug, and click “Inspect this element”.
    In the html window (bottom left) I see my text hilited in blue.
    In the css window (bottom right) I think I see css coding.
    In the beginning, before I messed with it, “font weight = inherited
    What’s going on and where do I go from here?

    Firebug doesn’t do permanent edits (there might be an extension that lets it do so though). To get permanent changes you need to edit one or more of your theme’s stylesheets. Those are the .css files in wp-content/themes/your-theme-name. There should be a style.css and there might be others like rlt.css or ie.css or something. There might be stylesheets in a subdirectory too, like css/ie.css or something. In FireBug, to the right of every style rule is a link that reveals to stylesheet location for that rule.
