If you get multiple emails, it’s because you’ve turned on the “debug” setting. Please take a look at the debug setting – it has a short description next to it of its effect, including sending more than one email.

Debug is not checked (in fact, I have never seen this advanced area prior).
I’m referring to receiving 1 email with my themes backup, 1 email with my db backup, 1 email for ‘others’, etc. is this not how the plugin is intended to behave?
what I loved about the previous backup plugin I used (although it was very problematic in other areas!) is that it would send me 1 email notification with the zip of my DB attached, and then the entire backup (including files/folders) directly to my external storage + the server as this was of course way too large to attach to an email.

It shouldn’t be doing that. Please can you provide a link to the log file for the backup? (Use pastebin.com or something like that to post it – the forum mods don’t like them being stuffed into posts).

Sorry, I misunderstood. Yes, it is intended that each backup entity (plugins, themes, etc.) gets attached to a separate email. That gives a higher chance of the email actually getting through, instead of silently being dropped by one of the email servers along the way that thinks it’s too big.
It’s the *report* that there should only be one of. But now I see that’s not what you’re saying.
