First I want to tell you how much I love your plugin. I use it on almost all my client websites.

When I do my web design work I use PaleMoon browser (a.k.a.: FireFox for Windows) and I have the following problem in PaleMoon and FireFox but not in Chrome.

When I use Custom Sidebar plugin along with Advanced Random Posts Widget plugin the behavior of widgets and sidebars in WP Admin > Appearance > Widgets is insanely slow. I click to open a sidebar and have to wait 10-20 seconds for it to open. I click to open a widget, same delay. I try to drag and drop a widget, same delay. I try to type code into a text widget, same delay for a few characters to show up, then I have to type a few more characters and wait… uggghhhh! So, whenever I use these two plugins together, I have to switch to Chrome to work in the widgets area.

Is there something you can do about this?

  • Hey there Trishah,

    How are you doing today?

I’ve done some testing using both Custom Sidebar and Advanced Random Posts Widget plugins and I couldn’t recreate this on Firefox, please see video
    http://screencast.com/t/8CCARPZSbBN.

So this could be related to combination of plugins that are being used on your site. Can you please test for conflicts by deactivating all other plugins and try to switch the theme to a default one to see if that will help.

    Best regards,
    Bojan

Thank you for your replay. The website I’m using for a test only has those two plugins active. This is how I knew it was between those two. Also, I get this delay on more than this one site.

If you are not having a problem and I am… could it have to do with something about my server?

If you would like to try it yourself, please email me at: [email protected] and I’ll send you login credentials.

    Hey there Trishah,

If you would like to try it yourself, please email me at: [email protected] and I’ll send you login credentials.

As much as I’d like to do that we’re not allowed to ask for admin access nor you are allowed to post your email address on the forum, you can see more about forum rules here.

As for your issue this could be related to your server, or in case you have a lot of sidebars there as you can see I only tested with two.

How many sidebars do you have replaced on your site?

    Cheers,
    Bojan

I did not realize I was not supposed to give me email, my bad 🙁

The test site I have has five (5) sidebars created by your plugin, four (4) sidebars I’ve created with my child theme functions.php as well as the themes’ two (2) sidebars.

Even though they were all turned off I went ahead and deleted all the plugins except for the two in question and got the same delay.

I then removed the four (4) sidebars I’ve created with my child theme functions.php and I get the same delay.

    Hey again Trishah,

I wasn’t referring to deleting plugins but rather deactivating them but since you already done that I guess there is no going back.

Can you please also try switching to one of the default WP themes like twenty fifteen.

If this doesn’t change anything this probably means this is somehow server related.

    Please let me know 🙂

    Cheers,
    Bojan

The site I am testing on is just that… a test site. So deleting the plugins is not a problem 🙂

I switched to the 2015 theme and the only sidebars now active is the one for the theme and the 5 I created with your plugin. I’m getting the same delay.

Here is the php info file: http://webdesignbytrishah.com/wp-test_01/phpinfo.php Does this help figure out what might be going on with the server?

    Hey again Trishah,

What you could try is to check networking tab using Firebug to see which request is exactly taking that much time and causing this. Then we could possibly try to forward this information to our developer for some feedback on this.

If I’m reading the FireBug Net information correctly, it looks like the call to /wp-admin/admin-ajax.php is taking the most time. Does that look like the problem to you?

    hey again,

I can’t see the image you’ve posted here, can you please re upload it?

I’m sorry but I was moving servers and somehow that image didn’t get moved. The link will work now.

But in the meantime, whatever the problem was seems to be fixed now 😀 There is still the scroll-wheel slowness in FireFox but that long delay is now gone.

    Hey Trishah,

So this was definitely somehow related to the server, glad to hear that you’re not longer having these issues.

    Cheers,
    Bojan
