    Hello,

I followed the instructions on your website for this error of my sitemap not loading:
“error on line 2 at column 6: XML declaration allowed only at the start of the document”.

It appears it was conflicting with Gravity Forms. I reached out to them and they said you are aware of the problem and only you can fix it. Is this correct? Any idea on when this will be fixed? It’s been a few days at least now and I’m worried I’ll have to switch to a different plugin if this isn’t fixed soon.

    Thank you!

  • @omsbnw: Can you provide me a link to your sitemap which shows the error?

@omsbnw: Thanks for the links! We can see there is a white line at the beginning of the sitemap source code. In fact, this is also happening on your main site.

The white line at the beginning is giving the error. The white line is being put there by your theme or another plugin. We have a knowledge base article you can follow to resolve the issue: XML error in the sitemap. It’s most likely caused by an empty line at the end of the functions.php file.

    Hello,

Yes, I read this article originally and tested if there was a plugin conflict. It is conflicting with Gravity Forms – when I disable Gravity Forms, the sitemap works.

I reached out to Gravity Forms and this is what they told me:
“This is not something we can fix. Yoast is aware of the issue, but I would recommend adding your comments there are well. It’s something they’ll have to fix on their end.” -Chris Hajer

I see this is marked as resolved. Is it?

I have a website with Yoast SEO and Gravity Forms and there is plugin conflict between the two for sure. Albeit it is on the Yoast SEO side. My issue is not in regards to the sitemap however. My issue is that I cannot edit any fields within the Gravity Forms admin portal. But, when I disable Yoast SEO, all works just dandy.

    Any thoughts?

Do I need to open another support thread?

    Thanks!

Well… this is an old thread buried by many others. It looks like there is a conflict here too – https://ww.wp.xz.cn/support/topic/yoast-seo-conflict-with-event-espresso-4-mobile-app/ – I wonder if it is related?

    Hi @omsbnw,

Something is outputting the extra white line in your sitemap. When I look at the sourcecode of your sitemap (can be found by typing this in your browser: view-source:http://www.bekinsmovingandstorage.com/sitemap_index.xml ) you can see the first line is a white line. This shouldn’t be happening. Most likely, this is caused by an empty line at the end of the functions.php file. Did you check this? Otherwise, a plugin or your theme is causing this. Please check for conflicts. And ensure you are using the newest versions of Yoast SEO 4.8 and Gravity Forms 2.2.3.1.

    @creativetopia

Please create a new post for your issue. That’s the best way to get help. Just a side note: the newest versions of Yoast SEO 4.8 and Gravity Forms 2.2.3.1 don’t conflict with each other.

@omsbnw Since the Yoast SEO sitemap works when Gravity Forms is inactive, we know the whitespace is not output by our plugin or it would remain when their plugin was inactive.

This means there is some type of interaction with Gravity Forms that creates the whitespace. Since we know the current version in a default state does not conflict with our current version, it’s possible you have customized something that outputs the whitespace.

    Please answer the following:

    • What happens if you temporarily disable all forms? Does the whitespace go away?
    • Do you have any custom settings enabled or disabled in Gravity Forms? Does changing to default settings remove the whitespace?
    • Do you have any Gravity Forms add-ons enabled? Does disabling those remove the whitespace?

It looks like it’s a Gravity Forms Add-on, called “Gravity Forms Salesforce Add-on”. It seems like the plugin author is inactive since it hasn’t been updated in 2 years and no support requests have been answered. Thank you for your help!
