Hi, we recently updated our site to Word Press version 4.7.4. I was told we could only go this high because of our server’s PHP limit.

Now, any time I try to access anything from the dashboard options, I keep getting “Database Update Required” prompts, and then I click “Update WordPress Database”. After that, I get another prompt that says “No Update Required”, and then I click “Continue”.

Is anyone familiar with this? These prompts happen a lot, and intermittently. Sometimes, after clicking “Continue”, I get re-directed to our site’s home page instead of the page I was trying to access.

What version of PHP is your server running?

    5.4.16

It says I cannot update because WordPress 5.2.1 requires PHP version 5.6.20 or higher.

And then tells me I’m running version 5.4.16.

Ok, you’ll need to ask them to update your PHP version.

PHP 5.4 reached end of life back in 2015, that means you haven’t been receiving PHP security fixes for 4 years: https://www.php.net/supported-versions.php

If they cannot upgrade to PHP 5.6.20, though we do recommend PHP 7.3, I recommend finding a new hosting provider. We have some recommendations at https://ww.wp.xz.cn/hosting/

    Ok, this helps. Thank you!
