Constantly updating screen

Hi there, the test app keeps updating all the time, at least that is what I think it is doing, when the screen goes white and the wave is showing. It does it every four of five seconds, even if the screen is untouched.

One question to the functionality, can the app show new message notification on the icon, with a little red bubble, when recieving messages in E.g. Front End PM or Buddypress build in message component?
