• We have a site with the PixelGrade Listable Child theme, and when we go to “customize” we get the following error where we think we should be seeing a view of the page, or part of the theme to customize:

“Content Encoding Error” The page you are trying to view cannot be shown because it uses an invalid or unsupported form of compression.

On the left we can see some settings options. See https://www.dropbox.com/s/vjbpmzke42nwuw8/Screenshot%202018-06-25%2017.03.30.png?dl=0 for a screenshot.

We’ve been googling combinations of “Content Encoding Error” and wordpress admin themes customization for a while, but nothing seems to correspond to what we’re seeing.

Apologies in advance if this is the wrong place to ask, but if anyone’s seen anything like this we’d love to hear about it, or be directed to a better place to ask …

    Many thanks in advance

Are you getting this error in Fire Fox browser?

    Have you tried different browsers?

See if solution reported in this thread works for you:

we looked at that, but currently in firefox that setting is set to ‘gzip, deflate’ so it didn’t seem to make much sense to set it to ‘true’. Just tried setting it to true, but it makes no difference … 🙁

Really appreciate you helping us looking for solutions 🙂

This may be a plugin or theme conflict. Please attempt to disable all plugins, and use one of the default (Twenty*) themes. If the problem goes away, enable them one by one to identify the source of your troubles.

If you can install plugins, install “Health Check”: https://ww.wp.xz.cn/plugins/health-check/ On the troubleshooting tab, you can click the button to disable all plugins and change the theme for you, while you’re still logged in, without affecting normal visitors to your site.

thanks, that sounds like good advice. We’re a little wary of disabling all plugins since this is a live site. That Health check plugin sounds useful … we’re working on creating a staging version of the site, but that sounds like a good short cut – many thanks 🙂
