The page breaks in the middle so I’m suspecting errors with PHP. How old exactly is your installation? Maybe you see some error messages in the wp-admin?
Things you can do:
– Make backup
– Update
– Switch off all plugins
and see what happens.
Thank you for answering. The version is 2.3.3 and has been in place for some years.
I’ve tried disabling the plugins but it still is doing the same. I can’t back up as I don’t have access to the server details. I’m not an expert and because there has been customisations I was worried about altering anything as it’s not my site.
I’ve tried a plugin backup and I’ve just reactivated that without any other plugins and it’s worked where it didn’t before. Not sure what to do with it but it’s now on my computer.
I can’t see anything else obvious as php is not my forte!
That is not just old, but ancient. I seriously would consider updating since it might not be safe to use ( every version of WordPress comes with new bug fixed etc ).
I think what happened is that your hoster upgraded to PHP 5, a new version where some things changed. This makes old wordpress installations to give errors or even break. That might be the case here as well.
I have been saying the same to them for ages but didn’t want to get involved!
I have managed to install the backup on my MAMP server on my machine but of course it still shows just the header. I suppose at least I have the content but not sure what to do now?
Download the latest wordpress and try to run this next to your backup on the server and see if this sites works under a new wordpress. After that you can put the new version online I guess.
I’ll give it a go it may take me a while to sort it out but I think I need to do something drastic!
Thank you for your help.
