Content type selection
-
Hi, the content type selection drop down menu, and condition list seams more aimed for a forum based plugin like BBPress than for a social network plugin like BuddyPress. I really would like to see all BP components like private messaging, read and/or send as part of the restrictions.

The plugin supports restricting all custom post types, all custom taxonomies, and some plugin-specific content such as BuddyPress Profiles. It also supports all capabilities added by other plugins, and extending support for other plugins is definitely on the roadmap.
What plugin are you using for private messaging? If it adds any capabilities for WordPress, you should be able to permit/deny those for a given Access Level.
Hi Joachim, I use the messaging system in BuddyPress, which are not restricted as I see it?
You’re right, my bad 🙂
So you want to restrict sending/receiving messages, or do you want to restrict access to the Messages section of the User Profiles?
Hi Joachim
Preferably restricting sending and/or receiving messages but the possibility of restricting access to the Messages section in general, would also be useful.Regards
CarstenI just tested this condition:
BuddyPress Profiles: Messages
This successfully restricts access to the Messages section, so that members without this level cannot access it. It will also redirect unauthorized users that click on the “Private Message” button.
However, it will not hide the “Messages” label from the profile.
Hi Joachim, thanks for listening and for the effort of making the plugin even better, great work! I look forward testing the new condition in the next update.

CarstenHello Joachim, I was exited to see, if this new BuddyPress Profiles: Messages has been implemented in the newest update, but apparently not yet?
Would you please explain, once more, the “email” “read” and “unread” conditions under BuddyPress Profiles content?
I do not know of any email in BP, but only messages, maybe my ignorance, but what does this condition restrict? The same with “read” and “unread” if this is not concerning Messages?
Regards
CarstenI found, what must be a small bug. In the Conditional logic section, the names of the added sections are all changed to [object Object] when updated.

Are you using any plugin that adds additional sections to the BP profiles? Could you try to clear your browser cache and try the conditions again?
The newest release made it easier to see hierarchical items in the conditions, but no change was made to BP restrictions.
If you select “Messages” as seen in this screenshot: https://imgur.com/a/gYZwE
Then users that do not have that Level will not be able to access the /members/ section of BP profiles.I do not have the “Messages” section in my BuddyPress content list as shown in the screenshot?

CarstenHello again, you were right, two plugins were causing the problem. BP Messages Tool and BP Better Messages. Any chance Restrict User Access could be made compatible with these plugins?
Now the “Messages” is showing in the content list, that is so great!
One component I miss under “Messages” is the BP “Compose”component, which is restricting composing and sending messages.
Regards
CarstenHi again, one thing I do not understand is the “Messages” sub component “Inbox”, choosing “Inbox” also restrict access to the “Messages” in general, so “Messages” or “Inbox” makes same restrictions. What is the intention of this component?
A better solution for “Inbox” would be to show the inbox, but restrict access to open, view and thereby answer messages.
Regards
Carsten
