ConvertKit Emails being sent

We are using both the ConvertKit plugin and ConvertKit for WooCommerce. On our website we use WooCommerce Subscriptions> We have it configured so that Convertkit sends an email after the initial purchase, but it is not supposed to send that same email on renewal of the 2nd and 3rd year of the subscription. We are experiencing a lot of students that are getting the initial subscription emails during the renewal, and cannot figure out how to prevent that from happening. Any assistance you can provide would be greatly appreciated.
