convoluted file systems

The host I’m signed up with, dts-net, comes with a multitude of seemingly useless files. So much so that it’s incredibly hard to find where to put anything… for example, my index.html page is in opheliaclothing.com/var/www/html.

As a result of this, it’s proving to be nearly impossible to install wordpress on this god forsaken machine.
I’m considering just deleting all these folders, but I’m sure that the whole shebang would come crashing down (and, as you may imagine, their customer support is less than satisfactory.)

But heck, it’s hard to beat 24 bucks a year. If anyone knows more about this particular frustration, I could really use the help.
