Cookie category assignment inconsistent? Example reCAPTCHA.

    What I do not understand is that the auto-generated cookie policy shows Google reCAPTCHA for example in the category “functional” (and also in the plugin administrtion tool the information from cookiedatabase.org is “functional”). However, if the user disables marketing cookies, Google reCAPTCHA is disabled.

    Just to avoid misunderstanding: We definitely want that the user can disable it. Therefore, we habe set the tickbock “Do you want to block reCAPTCHA before consent and after revoking consent?” in the services tab of the complianz assistent to “yes”.

    But it is a bit confusing for the user that reCAPTCHA is then not listed under marketing but functional? Why does it still work? Somewhere in the backend, it is listed under marketing, or am I wrong? (Obviously, functional would also be the wrong category because then it could not be disabled.)

    Even if I categorize the Cookie “_grecaptcha” as statistics it still is enabled or disabled via the classes cmplz-accept-marketing -> cmplz-marketing
    The service “Google reCAPTCHA” also does not show the catgeory.

    So – how can I see the assigned categories and how that interoperates with enable/disable functionality? I am confused… Any help appreciated. THANKS YOU!

    (P.S. Is marketing actually the right category for reCAPTCHA? A category such as “spam protection” or so would be probably more intuitive to understand…)

    The data passport of Google Recaptcha (https://cookiedatabase.org/service/google-recaptcha/) shows that under normal circumstances a First-party cookie is indeed placed for a Functional purpose, namely (_Grecaptcha) and a maximum of 3 other cookies (such as rc::a) can be placed for a marketing/tracking purpose. Those 3 are so-called Third-party cookies and have a function to distinguish between humans and bots. But since they connect with the Google.com domain they are also used to track the users. According to some sources it can also be used in context with (video) advertisement.

    For the GDPR or other option regions, this means that consent needs to be asked for marketing/tracking.
