• Considering moving my 4 Joomla sites to WordPress – seems the cost to migrate all 4 from its present version of 1.5 to 2.5 will cost anywhere from $5.1-8K.

Will this be the case with WordPress as well? Seems my Joomla developers did not continue upgrading the CMS and now the cost is enough to offset the cost of moving to WP.

Here in my town near San Antonio, the WP community is quite active and large with lots of help if needed. The Joomla community is quite small and very little activity occurs here (however, in nearby Austin – an hour away – there is quite a bit of Joomla activity).

I like the feel of the WP community and all the help available locally so think this may be a good time to move to WP.

    Cheers,
    Maxx

  • I see your initial question along this same kind of line did not get answered a year ago, so I will be sure you get some kind of answer this time!

I have no idea what it might cost to have someone make your move happen, but your new WordPress Dashboard/s will let you know right away whenever updates come along so you might never again end up in this kind of situation.

The cost of updates depends completely on who’s doing them. If you’re doing them yourself then there should be no cost (with WordPress and Joomla!…). Of course doing updates yourself can be daunting if you’re not used to it, which is why a lot of people pay pothers to do the upgrades for them.

I’d be very wary of anyone that’s trying to charge that much to upgrade pretty much any open-source system like that. It seems like a huge amount of money for just upgrading the system. It’s likely that there could be some issues with your particular sites that I don’t know about thugh, so it could be justified. Just doesn’t seem like it from the outside.

As far as the difference between upgrading Joomla! and WordPress, I’d think that WordPress is easier. I have only done some basic playing around with Joomal! and I didn’t like it much. The upgrade process in WordPress is very easy so it can be odne by yourself assuming that you’re up for the challenge. Of coruse any upgrade to these sor tof things has the possibility of breaking something depending on the quailty of the plugins and theme so there’s always variables.
