I could use this feature as well. I would also add remaining time till they can buy item again.
Example: if they’re allowed to purchase 2/month.
Display – remaining 0. You can purchase 2 in 25 days.

@algoritmika When activating “Single product page” notice on fronted it achieves partially what at least I am looking for. However it would be nicer if I could either include this notice in “Product Description”. Or use shortcode to achieve this. (because it is really non user friendly right now) So far I could only find shortcode to display limits for all products which is not desired outcome.

The notice you’ve mentioned is actually simply using [alg_wc_mppu_current_product_limit] shortcode, so you can use it anywhere you need. Also, as you’ve probably noticed, you can set “Single product page” option to “Text” (instead of “Notice”) and it will be displayed right after the short product description. As for adding it to the main product description – I will try to add it in next plugin version.

Please update the plugin to the latest v3.2.0. Now in “Frontend > Customer message” and “Frontend > Single product page” options, and in [alg_wc_mppu_current_product_limit] and [alg_wc_mppu_term_limit] shortcodes, you can use new placeholders listed below. Please note that all placeholders will not work when “Date range” is set to “Lifetime”. All placeholders get data for the first order in date range for the current product.
%first_order_date% – order date,%first_order_amount% – order amount (e.g. quantity),%first_order_date_exp% – order expiration date,%first_order_date_exp_timeleft% – time left until order expiration date.
You will be probably most interested in %first_order_date_exp_timeleft%.
When you confirm that it’s working properly, I’m going to add an option to make the countdown live (with JavaScript).
@emyeele: as for your initial question – “… how many more items the user has left to select/add to cart…” – I believe what you need is %remaining_minus_in_cart% placeholder (currently it can be used in “Customer message” option only, but I’m going to add it to other options and shortcodes as well).
@pycckuu4ejl: I’ve also added a new position for the “Frontend > Single product page” option – “Text in product description” – which will add info to the product’s main description.

I am trying to limit a User Role from not being able to purchase more than 3 items, another Role to not be able to purchase more than 4 items, and another Role no more than 5 items.
However I am only seeing the option to limit per item and not per “cart number of items.”
Is this not possible or was I assuming your plugin can actually do this?
