    CoursePress is a plugin for creating courses (haven’t considered that it could be used for memberships). Its primarily to create a site for selling courses (or give them away if thats what you’re after) whereas s2member is a membership plugin.

    2.
    Yes, drip feeding can be done from within units in a course. You can set when a unit becomes available, even make it dependent on completing a previous unit (completion can be as simple as just viewing the unit).

    3. Discussions in CoursePress is contained only within a Course (or even a unit in that course). Its not an open forum site wide.
