Hi there,
it is because of older PHP version < 5.4.0 . We will add back compatibility for this in the new update rolling out today 1.0.5 .
We also recommend you to upgrade PHP for security reasons see : WordPress Requirements

That’s very nice of you, but unfortunately the version of PHP on my shared webhosting is 5.5, so you are wrong.
Weird, that error is because of the shorthand array used [] , that was introduced in 5.4.0
Does it not work now with 1.0.5 ?
If it still does not work with 1.0.5 could you please provide us with WP+FTP credentials to inspect this issue by sending them to support[@]teslathemes.com ?

It now works as expected. 1.0.5
