Did anything change on your site in between when it was working and then stopped working?
Not that I know of. I may have updated some of my plug-ins at the most. But there was no major changes that I can think of.
Hiya,
Which version of Gutenberg were you using at the time? There was a crashing bug in 4.5.0, which was fixed in 4.5.1 the other day, which sounds a bit like what you are describing here.
I have the updated plug-in, 4.5.1 and just activated it to double check. I’m still getting a white screen anytime I try to add a new post or add a new page.
It must be coming from one of the other plugins that updated, if we can track down which one we can help them update and fix the bug.
I am so glad I ran across this thread of comments. It confirms exactly the fears I have regarding this unstable software product. On top of the difficulty of even trying to use Gutenberg (I tried!), it is clear that this software will harm our company’s website.
I have installed the Classic Editor plugin, but NOW I have enough information to actively push for a new website to be developed on some other platform that is not WordPress. There must be several other options, and it is time for an upgrade. This whole issue clearly shows me that “WordPress” is not the community it appears to present itself as.
For the most part, things should keep working, for those plugins or themes where things aren’t as expected, they will need to be updated, this is the case with any WordPress update we’ve had that addresses the editor. I can understand the concerns though, and I recommend using the Classic Editor plugin until you’re confident the things that caused a conflict have been remedied.
As for the original problem of a likely conflict, if you’re unable to set up a test site, the Health Check plugin allows you to enter Troubleshooting Mode, where you can enable or disable one plugin at a time for only your users to discover where the conflict originated.
