Crashes .htaccess

    Activating plugin produces changes to .htaccess, which then crash system.
    “Forbidden
    You don’t have permission to access / on this server.
    Additionally, a 403 Forbidden error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.”

    Restoring .htaccess from backup makes system work, but I’m reluctant to hand over a system which could break if someone deactivates/reactivates the plugin.

    There is one unusual feature about the site. It WP is actually in a subfolder, but .htaccess makes it look as if it were in public_html.

    I have tried other similar plugins, which produce the same result, so there may be something about my WP (I am not the original author)

    Secondary Title itself doesn’t touch any .htaccess files. However, there is a function included that adds a custom structure to WP’s permalinks. Changes to .htaccess files should only become applied when you hit “Save Changes” on the permalinks settings page. But if other plugins cause the same error, maybe you should give your WP installation proper reading/writing rights (CHMOD 755) to the file, since the whole permalinks depend on it.
